Youth Coaching
"Aspiration and achievement are the most important things for ensuring young people grow up to realise their full potential. We want all young people to have a sense of purpose."

Young people have to face many challenges in their cognitive development and learning journey through their formative years at school and college and youth coaching can be a great support at these times. Not only are they dealing with the usual pressures of educational life including exams, timetables, and peer group pressures, but they may also have issues around motivation, communication with different groups, self-image and dealing with other people’s expectations.
Youth coaching offers the opportunity to have access to someone with relevant or accessible knowledge but who is ‘objective’ to the young person, not their parent, teacher or peer who may bring expectations and unintentional bias to the relationship. Personal youth coaching can provide support and guidance without criticism or judgement, helping young people to:
-
Develop better relationships with parents, peers and teachers.
-
Identify underlying motivations and values.
-
Find out what negative beliefs are preventing them making decisions and taking control.
-
Improve communication skills.
-
Develop a sense of self to build confidence and good self esteem.
-
Take responsibility for their actions.
How does Youth Coaching for Young People work?
There are various options for facilitating youth coaching for children and young people. The coaching can be done at school or college, or on a one-to-one basis with regular sessions within a given time scale.
Some of the talks and workshops available for groups and schools include:
-
Coaching skills for teachers - learning techniques to help students develop independent thinking and self management aimed at building confidence and improving personal performance.
Communication skills and personal identity: a session examining social skills and personal emotions within the school or college environment, encouraging the development of good social interaction and high self-esteem.
-
For motivational issues, a group youth coaching session to nurture the development of personal aspiration, self-motivation and self-managed achievements.
-
Where young people are thinking about what the future holds, a workshop to help GCSE or A level students make informed and considered choices which they can be committed to and which they will enjoy, about their future at school and beyond.
-
A life skills workshop to give students an understanding of the skills required in the workplace, and to help them in the search for the right job or career.
The YES 12 Steps to Success programme - a brilliant enterprise project created to nurture the fresh talent, ideas and energy of our emerging youth and build entrepreneurial thinking and skills.
